What
is Airtan?
Airtan is an automatic tanning
system – there’s no one in there with you, so tan with dignity !!
The Airtan system
uses 12 jets carefully positioned around the capsule to evenly deliver a fine
mist of tanning solution. This solution contains DHA, a natural skin pigment
that is readily absorbed to give a healthy tan. The tan lasts for approximately
five to seven days, (this is how long the average human takes to shed the top
layer of skin). Airtan has twelve jets that surround the body and guarantee a
consistent all over tan. The tanning solution is sprayed for just 12 seconds,
sufficient to deliver a pleasant coating of colour. The solution is scented
with aloe-vera and is not unpleasant if accidentally tasted. The solution also
contains a bronzer for immediate visible results, as the DHA is colourless and
only takes effect after 2-4 hours.
How
DHA Works
Dihydroxyacetone,
or DHA, is the colourless sugar that makes the magic happen in the self-tanning
process. DHA reacts with skin proteins, including amino acids, in the outermost
layer of skin. The reaction develops brown skin colouring that looks very
similar to a natural tan. Skin coloration takes anywhere from two to four hours
and lasts five to seven days--depending on skin type and the DHA concentration
in the lotion. The "tan" fades as the dead layers of skin slough off,
just as in normal tanning.
There is no
restriction on usage by pregnant women, or by persons below 18.
To improve and extend your
Airtan, please read and follow the guidelines below
Before
tanning
- Do lightly exfoliate and moisturise
your whole body 24 hours before treatment, especially elbows, knees and
heels and any areas of hard skin.
- Don’t have a shower immediately before
treatment- DHA is more compatible on skin which is acidic.
- Don’t shave or wax immediately before
treatment. Leave at least 24 hours to avoid irritation.
- Do completely remove all make-up,
cosmetics and skin preparations before treatment.
- Do wear loose clothing. Bronzer can
rub off on tight clothing. Any stains will wash off.
- DHA may stain nylon, do wear dark or
old underwear,.
- Do watch the Airtan video guide.
During tanning
- Use foot covers and put a barrier
cream on the underside of each foot.
- Use barrier cream on palms of hands
and between fingers and nails especially acrylic nails.
- Do not wear the mitts into the booth.
- Insert token and enter the spray booth
closing the door behind you.
- Press the start button (located
halfway up on the left side of the booth when you go in). There will be a
delay of 5 seconds and then a 1 second hiss of air will be heard followed
by approximately 10 seconds of lotion spray.
- Do stand and move in the booth as
instructed in the video, and aim for as much mist to fall on your skin as
possible.
- Be careful not to get too close to the
nozzles as this will result in blotching.
- Do keep eyes lightly closed and tilt
head upwards.
- Do hold breath for 10 seconds. The
mist is not dangerous, this is only to avoid irritation,.
- When the spray finishes, you will hear
the air hiss continue for about 15-20 seconds. When the air stops, the
front 2 lights will come on, as will the extractor fans on top of the
booth. It is safe to stay in the booth for 20 seconds more but no longer.
- Do leave the booth when the lights
come on above the door. The booth will still have mist in at this time,
being extracted by the fans.
- Do close the door behind you on
exiting.
- Approx 1-2 minutes after you have left
the booth, the water will spray from the nozzles. This is a cleaning
process and you should not be in the booth at this time, as it will ruin
your tan.
After
tanning - Very important:
- On exiting the booth, remove the
shower cap and foot covers if used and place in the receptacle provided..
- Do check carefully in the mirror for
any runs or blotches that may have occurred. If there are any, gently dab
with the mitt until it appears flat and even. Gently rub in lotion using
the gloves provided, not forgetting elbows, feet (not soles) and backs of
legs. This will remove any runs or blemishes.
- Use yellow moisturiser on any streaks
immediately. This should help even out any areas which are blotchy or
streaky. (You can also apply the moisturiser about 90 to 120 minutes later
to give even coverage).
- Do allow skin to dry until the skin
has a light moisturised feel, before getting dressed. This may take up to
or even more than 6 minutes depending on conditions. In theory the more
time you allow for the spray to penetrate the skin, the better.
- Do wash palms of hands, between
fingers and knuckles and scrub nails, gently blend in on backs of hands.
Wash hands immediately to ensure they do not become stained.
- Do wipe soles of feet, between toes
and toe nails, blend in on top of feet.
- If there are any areas that appear to
have been ‘missed’, gently moisturise with the specially prepared
after tan moisturiser.
Care for your
tan
- Don’t shower, bathe or take excessive
exercise for at least 6 hours after treatment.
- Don’t shave legs for at least 12 hours
after treatment as this has a similar effect to exfoliating.
- Do pumice soles of feet to remove
staining.
- Do avoid exfoliating whole body after
using after using the Airtan as this will fade the tan faster.
- Don’t use exfoliating facial washes or
toner on the face for at least 24 hours after treatment.
- Do lightly exfoliate any areas of dry
skin (i.e. heels, elbows) as tan fades if it starts to look patchy.
- Do moisturise skin daily, preferably
with a suitable after tan moisturiser.
- Do use suitable sun tan lotion when in
the sun, as your tan will offer no protection from UV rays.
- Do have regular top up sessions as
this will build and extend the life of your tan.
- Some skin types may need more than one
application
- To obtain a darker tan, reapply after
the original application has developed.
